Photography by Aaron Keller

  Aaron.Keller-Self.Portrait

My name is Aaron Keller. I am a chemistry teacher at Scarborough High School in Maine where I have been teaching since 2006. I studied chemistry at the University of Southern Maine, though before that I studied philosophy and German at the University of Connecticut. I completed my Master's of Science in Science Education at Montana State University in 2017. I have been a choral singer for many years and for the last 12 years I have sung modern music, currently with Una Voce Chamber Choir. I love to read books about science, history, and philosophy, but also fantasy and science fiction. I ride my bike for exercise from 250 to 1000 miles a year. I love to hike and to be out in the woods or on the shore. And I love to make pictures.

I love the beauty of the natural world. My work centers on the things I find beautiful, whether that is as vast as a mountain or as small as the eye of a butterfly. I love appreciating things for their aesthetic appeal but, because I am a scientist as well as an artist, I love appreciating how an animal fits into its world. I love knowing the names of the birds and the bees that I photograph and how they are all connected. I love to think about the bones of the land under the landscape.

We all make our own worlds in our heads, our perceptions and the stories we tell ourselves about our lives. I believe that it is impossible for two people to see exactly the same thing. We all have our own worlds and our own expectations. With art we can bridge the divide. As a photographer I can show you my vision in a powerfully direct way. And this is why I love making pictures.

I’m willing to sell prints. Just get in touch. The titles that I have given to the photos on my site will appear if you hover the mouse over them or if you give them a long press on a mobile device.
