Multiplication/Division
Rules for multiplication and division involving significant
figures:
- The least number of significant figures in any
number in your calculation determines the number of significant
figures in the answer.
- Pure numbers (such as exact conversion factors and defined
quantities) do not affect the number of significant figures.
Remember: the result of a calculation cannot be more precise than
the measurements used to make the calculation.
