Surface Tension and Spherical Droplets

Droplets of water in freefall are spherical because the forces of attraction between water molecules acts to pull all molecules together. At the surface, this behavior is called surface tension. It acts to minimize surface area and a sphere is the 3D shape with the smallest surface area for a given volume.
